This web
site is dedicated to the first electric locomotives of the railroad from Santiago to Valparaíso.
These 62 locomotives of the series E-20, E-21, E-23, E-24, E-25, E-28 and E-29, all of American origin, they arrived at Chile
in 1922, together with the electrification of the line, to the end of the first half of the century XX in 1949. They represented an important step ahead in the progress of Chile and
their railroads, and besides permitting to enjoy to the Chileans, of a silent, quick, smooth trip and not polluting, have received the preferential admiration of the distinct generations of
railfans by their great beauty.
Such has been the nobility and quality of these locomotives, that still today remain some of them in service, through than half century of works. They deserve special mention the locomotives E-2803 and E-2903, although retired of the service, are found in good state, and require urgent attention, so much to avoid the inevitable deterioration of the time, as for its restitución to the service, operating touristics trains.

From 1961 to 1976 arrive to the country a new generation of 80 electric locomotives, series E-30, E-32 and E-17, now of Italian origin that come so much to replace to the first electric locomotives of the railroad from Santiago to Valparaíso that they began to be retreated, as to give service in the South Network, recently electrificated at the beginning of the years 60. The
next year -2003- will arrive at the country a Third electric Generation of locomotives, a modest departure of 4 locomotives, this time
made in Spain, about which we will maintain you
informed.
Not less important, are the around 100 electric locomotives of gauge narrow, distributed in a pair of tens of railroads, among them are found the beutiful Swiss locomotives articulated of the railroad transandine. Finally, the Spanish,
Argentinian, Japanese, Italian, and German Electric Railcars, that have been and
they are fundamental in the transportation of short and medium distance. Know them in the page "The Electric
